Using 123D Catch to make an environment for DAZ Studio

Using 123D Catch to make an environment for DAZ Studio

I love to create, but I am also fairly limited in respects to money. Hence I put a lot of effort into finding free computer graphic tools and seeing what I can do with them. I’ve mentioned DAZ Studio before. Now to look at 123D Catch, a wonderful product from Autodesk.

Basically 123D Catch lets you take several photos of something and then turn these into a 3D object for use in 3D programs. In this instance I am going import the 3D object into DAZ Studio to make the background for the following picture (I’ll show you how to do the rest of the picture in part 2).

So that fine church window that you can see there is a 3 dimensional construct from eight photographs. But it has depth, meaning I can shine lights on it to get shadows. I can display it from different angles. It is a great background.

Before you watch the video below, get the programs and install them. You can get DAZ Studio from www.daz3d.com/  and 123D Catch from www.123dapp.com/catch. The instructions on installation are pretty simple: just follow the prompts.

Below is the video that describes making the object and importing it into DAZ Studio. Once again, please forgive my fairly simplistic video making skills and my very amateurish commentary.

Thank you for reading and if you do make anything fantastic as a result of this then please leave a message here with a picture or link.
