Moving into online gaming

1998 – Unreal and Tribes

I loved Unreal but playing Tribes online blew me away – albeit very slowly at pings of about 450. That was when my first online gaming persona of Greggar was born. I was a very average player and was not particularly social. I guess some of that came down to frustration. My Keratoconus would always hamper the clarity of my vision when playing.

I was late coming into Halflife and Team Fortress Classic. It was only because the employees of a workplace of mine played these that I got into them. Online I met a player named Horendus. He played for a local Aussie clan called uY (Up Yours).

After using my graphics skills to make him a tag, he inducted me into uY as [uY]ThinkICare!!! Immediately below is a screenshot of myself using that alias with two of my buddies: notTricky and One-Eyed-Willy.

  1. This was a great trip down memory lane. I played HLDM as Andilizer when I was 10 to 13 years old. First clan {D.T.A} then eventually joined [MKK]. Great times. Hope you

    1. Andilizer! I remember you :) Yes, they were great times. I am so glad that you visited and enjoyed this. I do intend to write more, especially now that I know people are reading :) regards ST :)

    2. I tend to check it every year or two ST :-) Hope you’re well.

Long time no speak Andi. It’s Jigger from KNN & WAR. I remember when you came to my cousins house in Revesby and we played on his cable.

      1. The years fly, do they not? Good to hear from you Joel. :) I have been playing a little Urban Terror, but at 55 I feel my reflexes are a little slow these days :(
