I describe myself as a specialist generalist. And why not? The world is a fascinating place. Over the course of four university degrees and countless training courses, I have studied history, English, philosophy, computer science, mathematics, cognitive modelling, the psychology of learning, economics, project management, artificial intelligence, and computer graphics. In my professional life, I have worked for government agencies, universities, and private companies. I was on the Board of Directors (eventually as Vice President) of a mid-tier registered club. I even ran my own IT consulting company for a while. I was the 1988 winner of the Aisling Society of Sydney award for one of my essays (an Australasian award), and went on to have my first magazine article published in 1996. I had two management textbooks published in the early 2000s and have since gone on to write a few things now and then as the mood takes me. Of these, I am particularly proud of coming in second place in a military science fiction writing competition run by the Australian Department of Defence. My story featured a gestalt AI.
