Traipsing across Hyde Park to see the Albert Memorial

(NOTE: this is just a whimsical post without much purpose)

Francis Albert Augustus Charles Emmanuel (Prince Albert as we know him) had an ambitious uncle named Leopold, who just happened to be King of Belgium during the 1830s. Crafty old Leopold thought that it would be a fine idea to encourage romance between his nephew and his English niece (a fine lass named Victoria). I’m not sure that we would approve of that these days, but hey – they were the Royal Family! Anyway, we subsequently had Queen Victoria and Prince Albert happily married from 1840 till his death in 1861.

The things I like about

  1. Fantastic post and beautiful pictures. Got the lighting absolutely perfect. Will you return to good old blighty?

    1. Thanks so much 🙂 I do hope to get back there some time. Rhiannon enters secondary school next year, so this trip was timed to show her a bit of the world and her cultural heritage before that. Also, over the next six years I doubt whether we can get her out of school long enough to make a trip to the other side of the planet worthwhile. This said, there is a good chance that her school will have an excursion to Italy in 4 years time. So we may be able to piggy-back off that somehow and then pop over to the UK 🙂

    1. Nope. Haven’t tried it but I will 🙂 I actually love Paint.NET and before Nicole got me the Photoshop subscription it was my favourite photo editing tool, with GIMP as a second. Thanks 🙂

  2. The traipse around Hyde Park brought back a few memories. I once made a [teenage/stupid] hitchhiking trip there from the north of England. My companion had some ludicrous reason to go to London. We had no money for a hotel room (we were poor buskers) and ended up sleeping in Hyde Park, initially trying deck chairs but eventually the cold drove us to a bench against some sort of building where we snugged up between some other homeless people for about a 2 hour nap. The things we survive to laugh about decades later!

    1. LOL. The things we do as teenagers! But what would life be without such stories 🙂
