Catching up and a few laughs from the world of unemployment

As of the beginning of July I have been unemployed for 18 months. In more recent times I have temporarily abandoned social media and my art/writing projects so as to put even my leisure time into activities that will help me find a job. So this is just a check-in to let you all know that I am still alive and also to share a few funny stories. I will

A quick catch up on the past few weeks #SeekingWork #EuroPCR

As some of you may be aware, I’ve been unemployed since January 2016: the result of an unexpected downsizing and an equally unexpected eye-operation for my Keratoconus. In respect to the Keratoconus, I saw my eye specialist a week ago and he reckons I’m as good as it will now get, and so I don’t need to see him for another year. Yippee! Albeit, I still have fifty stitches in

29 years together - what made a good relationship

Today my wife and I celebrate 29 years of being a couple. Not married, mind you. That’s only been the last 19 years (as at 11 July). But we first started going out in 17 April 1988. To be honest, to this day I am still amazed that Nicole chose me. Twenty-three year old Greg was a bit of a mess. I was very much the geeky guy (I would

Rhiannon's holiday project is my garden shame

In 2008 my wife and I bought a little cottage on a large block of land in Sydney’s far south. We had dreams of a great garden in which our daughter Rhiannon could play to her heart’s content. Perks for Politicians and Public Servants

Hi all, Today’s post a fairly parochial, so please forgive me. In recent times Australian news has been filled with stories about politicians and public servants getting “freebies”. Some of these may be from lobbyists. Some may be from commercial interests. The general consensus seems to be “It’s not fair that they get such freebies.” Such freebies include overseas trips, dinners, attendance at sporting events and so on. I wish

2016: Personal lessons learned

2016 in summary 2016 has been a shocker for me. It started off when my workplace decided to restructure and my position was among those that vanished. So I left at the end of January only be told three working days later that I needed an eye operation to stop me losing my sight. The best (sarcasm) thing about that was that it would take around 12 to 18 months

My growing appreciation of Roger Cross (@theRogerCross , #DarkMatter #Continuum)

OK – I know it’s probably daggy (is this word used outside of Australia) to tag the subject of my blog post in the heading so that it will appear on his Twitter feed, but what the heck. I am only just learning all this Twitter stuff (WordPress and Instagram are my normal scenes). Thing is, I am really starting to enjoy seeing Roger Cross in television series and I am happy
